Seller's Description:
Very good. This latest book by Jock Sturges is outstanding. The single-page introduction gives the background to the pictures, and it prepares the reader for the delightful, poignant, beautiful, stunning, first-rate photographs that follow. It is a tribute to the girl / adolescent / woman Fanny, and to the continued brilliance of one of the very best photographers alive today. Is it worth the price? Definitely. Jock Sturges presents twenty five plates selected from fourteen years of his career. These includes several of his remarkable images. They won't be new to those who have followed his publications before. However, here each plate contains a commentary on the opposite page. In it the photographer describes the family and setting from which the image emerges. What makes so much of his work stand out is his ability to relate to these subjects and their family. The trust and comfort he has earned is rewarded with the complexity of the character he is able to capture on film. Coupled with his eye for setting and attention to detail the results are remarkable. Jock Sturges Twenty-Five Years is a unique addition to the growing family of Jock Sturges publications. It is the first that presents an overview of his classic images made between the years 1978-2003 with personal commentary by the photographer opposite each reproduction. Beautifully printed in a limited first edition of 3000 copies. Seller's Description:
Very good. In this volume, Sturges presents his fullest, most personal vision of his work. Selections from series that extend across many years dispel the aura of sensationalism that has dogged his work, revealing his close, long-term relationships with many subjects. From his "Misty Dawn" series showing a young California girl coming of age (1987-95), to "Marine", showing a girl on a French nudist beach (1987-95), it is clear that Sturges's subjects know and trust him. Included here are over 130 previously unpublished images. It's a pity that there are some people who cannot enjoy these fantastic pictures, or even think some of the photos would be "pornographic". The problem exists-in their minds-and nowhere else. They have simply not understand the sense of this book. The pictures in this great book are so marvellous. The depicted children show such a grace and dignity which most people have lost for a long time in everyday life. It's the remembrance at the own childhood, at the lost (better? ) time that will never come back, which this book expresses in a unique way like no other before. Thank you Jock Sturges for sharing these beautiful pictures and deep respect for all the people in this book. Zusatzinfo 159 Duotone Abb.
