Seller's Description:
Lionel Edwards. Very Good Indeed in Good jacket. A smart copy of this beautifully illustrated children's novel about a war horse based on the author's wartime experience. An early edition, first published in 1944 by Scribner.  In the original brown cloth binding. With the very scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece, and monochrome in text illustrations by Lionel Edwards,  a British artist who specialised in painting horses and other aspects of British country life.  A work by Nicholas Kalashnikoff, a Siberian-American author who wrote in the 1930s to 1950s. Before moving to the United States in 1924, Kalashnikoff participated in the 1905 Russian Revolution and was a political exile during the rest of the 1900s. With the military, Kalashnikoff served as a captain during World War I and a general in the Russian Civil War.  Using his experiences in the war, Kalashnikoff wrote this children's novel about a warhorse that he had previously owned. In publisher's original brown cloth binding. In the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. Light shelf wear to extremities, with fading to edges of boards. Ink inscription to front free endpaper. Dust wrapper is generally smart, with closed tears to rear joint and flyleaf joints, with chipping to edges. Rectangular card pasted to rear board of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Offsetting to half title page. Very Good Indeed.
