Kampung Boy is the autobiography of much-loved Malaysian cartoonist LAT.
His childhood is captured in LAT's customary quirky cartoons and give the reader a sense and place of life in the Kampung in the 50s.
The costumes, the scenery, the daily routine of family life leave the reader with a deeper understanding of life from a kid's perspective in the Kampung.
Since I have a bit of Malaysian blood in me, reading this book was a delightful discovery. The sweet coconut desserts and the gorgeous jungle described in Lat's sharp pen lines give you a sense of "being there" rather than an onlooker.
