It is good to have a book which gives us Clark's complete life. His autobiography ends ten years before his death, and a lot of interesting things followed, including his remarriage. Most of the earlier part is based largely on Clark's own account, and makes the same omissions, such as the idea of Picture of the Month, a different picture shown each month at the National Gallery during the War.
The obvious difference is in covering in detail his private life. Personally, I feel it unnecessary to dwell so heavily on the private sexual life of Clark, and the allegations that he had affairs with his researchers, artists etc. That detracts from the importance of his work, in encouraging people to take an interest in the arts, and finding out that they are Fun! It is only NADFAS which since then has been able to have such an impact in Great Britain, and NADFAS has not yet spread to the States..
