Flaherty was one of the foremost socialist writers in the early twentieth century, and this novel portrays the struggles between British landlords and their Irish tenants. From the library of John Legonna, who was a farmer, who spent much of his life involved in the politics and culture of Wales and Celtic countries, founding the New Nation Group and its magazine, Climeri.
