This book was so good. It's about a woman who was written off by her father when she married a soldier and not of money. After her husband is killed, she joins different traveling acting groups to support herself. So, she is with her acting troupe somewhere in the tropics when some man shows up in her room and mistakes her for her twin. The twin that she had been feeling as if was having a very difficult time. You know how they say twins have those feelings about each other. Anyway, she plays along with this thinking she is helping her twin sister get away from her abusive husband since he came all the way from London to take her back home after she ran away with her lover. It was obvious that he didn't know his wife even had a twin since no one was aloud to talk about her when she left home years earlier. When she gets back to London, she starts to understand that her sister may not have been the person she thought she was. She can't figure out why her sister's husband despises his wife and she finds out that her sister has neglected her daughter due to being born mildly retarded. When she, acting in her sisters place, starts to pay attention to the child and the husband notices she wasn't the same person she was when she left, the story shifts. The husband starts to question how he feels about his wife. Could he trust her again after cuckolding him so much and could she really love her child? When her father dies and she goes home to take care of the will, she finds herself out of sorts. She is falling in love with her sisters husband and she finding that her siser who was sweet and mild mannered while they were growing up has turned out to be a cold and heartless woman. She asks her "husband" to see about the will. When he returns from the reading, she notices a change in him immediately. As the story goes, someone starts trying to kill her. She automatically thinks its is the husband because of his hatred of her but in the end, she finds out it is her twin. The reading of her fathers will revealed that since her sister had turned out the way she had that the father had left everything to her and the sister knew it. She knew her husband would come after her when she left him for appearances sake and she led him straight to her twin. He would be accused of killing his "wife" and she would step in as the long lost twin who was exiled after marrying beneath her. It is a very good read how Candace makes the husband question himself all through the book. He knew his wife couldn't have changed that much in just a few weeks. It's not until the will is read that he finds that he's in love with his wife's twin. It twists and turns but the ending is really good. She puts it together so well. The deception, the trust issues, the changes.
