Little Little LaBelle of LaBelle, New York, is about to turn 18 and her parents are worried about her future. Her mother has joined The American Diminutives to surround her with friends and possible suitors her own size, and she has attracted a 19-year-old diminutive preacher, Knox Lionel...
...whom yet another diminutive, Sydney Cinnamon, used to know as "Opportunity Knox." Sydney is not involved in TAD; he was brought up in an orphanage in nearby Twin Oaks, in the ward for "unadoptables." Besides being a diminutive, Sydney had a humped back and a crooked leg. Things got better as he got older, and he now works for Palmer Pest Control as a mascot, made famous through his commercials.
The weekend of Little Little's 18th birthday, Knox Lionel is coming to preach in the church her Grandfather LaBelle pastors, and Sydney will be performing during halftime of a high-school sporting event and then appearing at Little Little's birthday party. Knox will be formally asking Little Little's father (or grandfather) for her hand in marriage, but the more she gets to know Sydney, the more she "clicks" with him. She isn't sure she loves "Little Lion" anyway--she's not really sure what love is. It's her parents who are rushing things, desperate to know that she'll be taken care of when they are gone.
