The first novel in Kim Stanley Robinson's massively successful and lavishly praised Mars trilogy. 'The ultimate in future history' Daily Mail Mars - the barren, forbidding planet that epitomises mankind's dreams of space conquest. From the first pioneers who looked back at Earth and saw a small blue star, to the first colonists - hand-picked scientists with the skills necessary to create life from cold desert - Red Mars is the story of a new genesis. It is also the story of how Man must struggle against his own self-destructive mechanisms to achieve his dreams: before he even sets foot on the red planet, factions are forming, tensions are rising and violence is brewing... for civilization can be very uncivilized.

Seller's Description:
Good. Size: 5x2x8; Has some light general reading/shelfwear, with remnants of sticker on front cover-otherwise this is a clean, tight copy. Quick dispatch from the UK.
Red Mars tells the story of the colonization of Mars. It's the first book in a trilogy - followed by Green Mars and Blue Mars - which follows the fortunes both of the Martian colonization experience, and of the "First One Hundred" - the initial band of settlers who begin the process.
It's hard to imagine a more detailed and compelling book about extraterrestrial settlement and colonization every being written. The book, and the trilogy as a whole, is wonderfully written, with compelling characters (my favourite is Sax Russell), brilliantly imaginative scientific extrapolations, accurate information on the geology and geography of Mars, and sincere and thought-provoking ideas about human society.
