Scary good time
I loved the scary story books growing up. The tales were darker than most of the children's horror books and the illustrations were down right creepy. There is a mixture of funny and scary tales. Each volume has a notes section where the reader can learn about the origins of the tales.
The third volume is the scariest. The one story really bothered me. Two farmers start abusing this Scarecrow, Harold. Harold comes to life and haunts their roof top. The farmers leave for a trip but forget their milking stool. One goes back to retreive it while the other stays with the cattle. Harold skins the one farmer. Its the most gruesome tale in the collection.
Most of the stories are great for children who like scary things. Plenty of them are retellings of classic tales. This is an excellent choice for readers of any age.
