Not Stated. Very Good. A smart copy of the 1894 edition of this romantic historical story from Swedish writer Viktor Rydberg, in the original Swedish. Swedish. Scarce work. Illustrated with twenty-five plates. Collated complete. A romantic story out of the Middle Ages, told with a poetic nature-mysticism, following the tragic love between a knight's son, Erland, and a Romani girl, Singoalla. The author rewrote the work throughout his life with the fourth and final edition of 1894 concluding with Erland dying as a hermit monk. It was subsequently revised with a happy ending. Written by Abraham Viktor Rydberg, a Swedish writer and a member of the Swedish Academy who has been described as "Sweden's last Romantic". In the original full green cloth binding with gilt. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the cloth. Small splits in the cloth to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and light age toning to the extremities. Very Good.
