Mark Ryden's paintings instantly trigger a warped deja vu. His work recalls a parallel universe of 1950s Golden Books and the whimsy of Lewis Carroll. His cheery bunnies, rendered in the glowing hues of children's books, are likely to be carving slabs of meat rather than frolicking in the forest. Ryden's work mingles superb technique with outre images to create a world of strange and disturbing beauty.

Seller's Description:
Very good + SIGNED. 134pp. Small quarto [26 cm] Full color illustrations over black boards. Moderate scratching and rubbing to boards. Touch of soiling to textblock edges. Three pieces of Mark Ryden ephemera laid in, all issued by the publisher. These include an elaborate tassled bookmark with gilt stamping and embossing, an illustrated postcard and an illustrated publisher's printed "Thank You" note. Mark Ryden has inscribed this volume to Patrick Eddington, while also providing a charming original illustration of a cat who has caught a mouse. Patrick Eddington (known as ‘Pat the Cat') was a Utah-based artist, teacher, and cat-lover. He carried on extensive correspondence throughout his life with a staggering number of writers and visual artists. Ryden's style is morbid Margaret Keane, with the flash of Robert Williams for the postmodern hipster.
