This is one of those books that can confuse you in the beginning, but will leave you satisfied in the end. I?ll admit that I probably wouldn?t have understood it as much if I hadn?t already read The Bar Code Tattoo first (a great read, by the way). There is nothing that notifies a consumer that there is a prior book ? in fact, I initially wondered if this was a rip-off of The Bar Code Tattoo, having read the first book many years ago.
Despite this, I loved how Weyn tells the story through multiple medias: through character narration, ?Public Service Announcements?, letters, newspaper articles, etc. Combined with the thoroughly thought-out ?science? of the book, it makes for a realistic atmosphere, as if the book is actually some sort of compilation on a government incident.
