When Lieutenant Commander Philip Queeg is given the captaincy of the destroyer-minesweeper USS Caine, Ensign Willie Keith believes that the tough Naval Academy graduate will bring much needed discipline to the Caine's rough crew. But Queeg soon reveals himself to be a cowardly, paranoid man. When his actions begin to endanger not just the crew but the war effort itself, Keith finds himself faced with a terrible choice: obey Queeg, and risk the lives of his shipmates and allies - or mutiny. Herman Wouk's boldly dramatic, brilliantly entertaining novel of life and mutiny on a Navy warship in the Pacific theatre was immediately embraced, upon its original publication in 1951, as one of the first serious works of American fiction to grapple with the moral complexities and the human consequences of World War II. In the intervening half century, The Caine Mutiny has become a perennial favourite of readers young and old, has sold millions of copies throughout the world, and has achieved the status of a modern classic.

Seller's Description:
None. Very Good Indeed in Good jacket. The first edition, second impression, of Herman Wouk's Pulitzer Prize winning historical novel set during the Second World War. The first edition, second impression of this work; without 'First Edition' to the copyright page, and with 'City Boy' rather than 'The City Boy' to the rear flyleaf and rear wrap of the dustwrapper. In the original price-clipped dustwrapper. Herman Wouk's important novel set in the turbulent days of the Second World War, a novel which won Wouk the Pulitzer Prize in 1951. The novel was based on Wouk's personal experiences during the war, being aboard two destroyer-minesweepers in the Pacific Theatre during the war. The mutiny stated in the title is a legalistic one that takes places during the Typhoon Cobra in December 1944. 'The Caine Mutiny' spent a total of one-hundred and twenty-two weeks on the New York Times best seller list. Written by Herman Wouk, a historical fiction novelist best known for this novel and 'The Winds of War'. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original price-clipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor marks to the boards and spine. Light spots to the fore edge. Dustwrapper with some edgewear, resulting in a few small closed tears or small chips, including a chip to the fold of the front flyleaf. Small tidemark to the rear wrap, with light marks and discolouration to the wraps. Mark to the head of the front wrap to the reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just a couple of light spots. Very Good Indeed.
