I began studying chess books in the 1960's and collected a number of the small books by Fred Reinfeld who wrote prolifically on the game. I bought the Complete Chess Course out of curiosity and for nostalgia. The book is beautiful and a great buy for the low price. It contains a compilation of eight of Reinfeld's shorter books in 685 pages. Hundreds of positions are given and explained to illustrate attack, defense, and strategy. I think this is a good book for a beginner in the game. Higher level players should look to the more modern works. The section on openings is a little weak and dated, but the rest of the book is entertaining and instructive to the novive who wants to know what good and bad chess moves look like and will profit from the many examples and explanation oof a large number of different positions. At Alibris prices it is a great bargain and would be helpful to someone who wants to learn more about the game.

The essentials!!!
Mr. Reinfeld has always impressed me with his ability to make the detailed aspects of Chess relevant and interesting. I recommend this text to all who know the game and would like to strengthen their understanding of it.
