Merlyn and Uther
This was the first of two of the Camulod Chronicles that I have read and the Roman theme of the series featuring Merlyn, Uther, and Arthur is very historic in its presentation. Of the 47 modern novels I read that featured King Arthur I think this is best although I will probably not read the whole series. Compared with the stand alone novel Uther this is also the best. The detail in the books is fantastic and if it could have taken place this way I would say it is the best attempt to portray it. I was fascinated with the Sidney Lanier book on King Arthur written for kids and read while I was a boy. But the Camulod series has a more realistic setting and theme. Mr. Whyte has a done a service to the fast literature of King Arthur and I am sad he is through with it.
