London-based artist David Rayson (b. 1966, Wolverhampton) graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1997, and is perhaps best known for his meticulous, deadpan paintings of urban and suburban scenes, and in particular, the Ashmore Park Estate in Wolverhampton where he grew up. Over the past five years Raysons practice has involved reconstructing places, interiors and everyday events in order to scrutinise and attempt to make sense of his immediate surroundings. The drawings and paintings engage with those potent visual moments that speak directly about where we are and how we live. He is fascinated by the evidence of human narrative which emerges from the smallest changes to the familiar environment: new windows, a conservatory built on to the kitchen, a shiny new car or a gravel drive.
