Lacks Bite
The Inner Circle is not one of TC Boyle?s best. Based on the work of Dr Kinsey the sex researcher, the novel lacks the snap of his usually crisp writing and none of the skewering satire for which he is known. Despite the titillating subject matter, the plot is stodgy and slow. Yes, there are acute social observations and moral ambiguities, but from Mr. Boyle we have come to expect much more.
If you?re new to his work, read Tortilla Curtain?a masterpiece.
