Bound in its original tan cloth, with burgundy lettering to the front board, and gilt lettering to spine. This copy is an example of the 1932 edition, in lovely condition, which was revised by the author-Liverpool-born artist William Gershom Collingwood-and published shortly before his death that same year. Features a frontispiece colour illustration of Windemere, and 15 further colour plates, in addition to vignette illustrations throughout, drawn by A. Reginald Smith. Collated, complete. This copy also features, in excellent condition, a map of the Lake Counties, as well as a gazetteer, which makes up the final 75 pages of the text. Collingwood's grandchildren have been cited as the inspiration for, and were the namesakes of some of the characters in the series 'Swallows and Amazons' by Arthur Ransome, which are considered to have contributed to the idyllic image of the Lake District.
