T.E. Lawrence compiled this book from notes that he had written after enlisting in the RAF in 1922. This edition has been restored to its original and it reflects the strange physical and mental state he was in after his war experiences and his subsequent struggle to fulfill the British Government's undertakings towards the Arabs. In a letter to George Bernard Shaw, Lawrence called the book "a private diary, interesting to the world only in so far as the world may desire to dissect my personality".

Seller's Description:
None. Very Good. A limited edition copy of T. E. Lawrence's autobiographical account on his time in the Royal Air Force, bound in quarter-leather on cloth boards. First Edition, Limited Edition, being No. 901 of two-thousand copies. Â Bound in a quarter-leather binding on cloth boards. Â This is an autobiographical account of T. E. Lawrence's experiences within the Royal Air Force, which was published posthumously in 1955. Lawrence self-censored the book until after his death, writing in a letter to E. M. Forster that 'the Mint shall not be circulated before 1950', in order to protect people mentioned in the work. Â This work follows Lawrence's decision after World War One to disappear from public view and anonymously enlist in the Air Force. Sections are broken down into three parts, those being 'The Raw Material', 'In the Mill', and 'Service'. Â T. E. Lawrence (1888-1935) was a British archaeologist, army officer, and writer, also known as 'Lawrence of Arabia' for his role in the Arab Revolt. Â With an illustrated bookplate to reverse of front endpaper, belonging to Geoffrey Flavell (1913-1994). Flavell was a thoracic surgeon who joined the RAFVR as a surgeon specialist in Sicily and Algiers. He made various medical discoveries, including further understandings on the vagus pathways and hypertrophic pulmonary osteoarthropathy. Â Collated, complete. In the publisher's original quarter crushed-morocco binding on cloth boards. Externally, very smart, with minimal wear to the extremities, particularly to the head of spine, where one of the corners is particularly worn. A few marks to boards with fading to top edge. Prior owner's illustrated bookplate to verso of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout, with light age-toning to pages and a few spots, mostly to the first and last few pages of text. Very Good.

Seller's Description:
None. Near Fine. A smart, limited edition copy of this memoir from T. E. Lawrence, set during his time in the RAF. The book is notable, despite flaws noted by critics, for its sharp observation, for the insight it gives into Lawrence himself, and for the censorship issues around its publication. Limited to two thousand copies, of which this is number 965. In a quarter-morocco binding. Externally, smart, with just some light rubbing. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Near Fine.
