I am hardly unbiased as my father and my uncle are . mentioned in the book; my father smuggled arms to the Haganah and my uncle Gad allowed fighters to train on his farm in upstate new york. Many of those who did similar things were jailed, and I guess my father was lucky not to have been charged with adding and abetting a foreign war.. This is a story that many people, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, don't know. The pledge is to help the State of Israel become a home for the diaspora, the displaced, and anyone w ho supports its goals. I am not sure if the history extends much beyond 1950. For a different take on what happened, read Amos Oz autobiography of growing up in Jerusalem during the war.
