Seller's Description:
None. Near Fine in Very Good Indeed jacket. The first US edition of this crime novella by Swiss author Friedrich Durrenmat. The first US edition, first printing, in the brightly illustrated price unclipped dust wrapper. Translated from the original German into English. Subtitled 'Requiem for the Detective Novel', Durrenmatt uses a first-person narrative to insert himself into a frame story as a writer of detective fiction. With this frame narrative, he offers a criticism of the classic tenets of detective fiction. The main story of the novel, excluding the frame narrative, was adapted into a Spanish-Swiss-German film called 'El Cebo' in 1958. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, exceptionally bright, with small bump to spine tail. Light sunning to dust wrapper back strip, with small losses of paper at back strip head and tail. Perimeters of rear wrap age toned, with light spotting. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Near Fine.
