It's a classic zombie novel with all the usual things going, on, but there's soooo much more, with a bit of a spin on the classic idea of what a zombie is. It will have you wallowing in suspense, turning the pages furiously. Seriously give it a read, and then City of Dead (the sequel) right after that.

a classic spin on the zombie apocalypse. I enjoyed reading it, this is the second book I have read from Keene, the first being The Conqueror Worms, a story line I prefer more. If you are just starting with the author, I'd recommend starting with that one. :)

excellent read
Keene tells a compeling story that is a true page turner. The concluding book is good as well and offers an ending that makes you think.

Fantastic Zombie Read!
I picked this up at a local Borders and got a review from one of the cashiers, who knows the author. After being advised to buy the sequel to The Rising, I proceeded to read both in one night. Keene is a joy to read - his books are fast, action-packed, and at times heart-rending. If you're interested in zombie books, Keene's set is wonderful. You definitely should buy both together - where one ends, the other begins immediately and is just as thrilling as the first. However, his books are quite realistic at times and if you're prone to nightmares, be warned!
