A quiet, elegant meditation on class frustration and the transience of human concern, The Shooting Party is also the inspiration behind one of the great landmarks of popular culture - Downtown Abbey.

Seller's Description:
Good-Bumped and creased book with tears to the extremities, but not affecting the text block, may have remainder mark or previous owner's name-GOOD Standard-sized.
The Shooting Party is an excellent microcosm of the European world at the edge of WWI. It's a beautiful story by itself, but so much more meaningful as an analogy of the disintegrating upperclass, the arms race, and the senseless waste of life that is to come. I highly recommend this book for anyone, especially those who have a strong interest in literature and history. If you want a real treat, read Barbara Tuchman's The Proud Tower before you read The Shooting Party.
