The book is entertaining to read and I couldn't put it down, graced with copious amounts of tasty photographs of the people, locomotives and trains that ran the lands, this is a must.

Monster of a book that covers all of the important "named trains" back when they really meant something and riding them was a sign of prominence and soclal standing. Beebe's writing syle might seem dated by today's standard but he knew what he was writing about and believed what he wrote.

Extremely well written, engrossing captions and stories in a huge book consisting of historical railroading black and white pictures. The author is an expert on railroading and brings to life the bygone era of trains in America, from the beginning nearly to the end. Written before the Amtrak take-over.
