Not everyone 'gets' Jasper Fforde -- too bad (or maybe good, look what happened to Lord of the Rings when everyone jumped aboard). I was given the 1st Thursday Next book (The Eyre Affair) years ago by a NZ friend & was hooked for life. Fforde skewers literary pretensions (& real world politics) w/o mercy. The latest (Thursday Next, First Among Sequels) shows Fforde in top form. He continues to invent totally new story lines, w/o abandoning the ongoing story of Thursday's 'real' life. And the ending is sooooo good & a perfect setup for volume 6 -- please, please write it soon! Having said all that, I'll add that it'd be tough to follow this installment w/o knowing Thursday''s backstory from earlier books.
