I own this book, though it is a child's book. When my granddaughter raved so about Balto (the movie) and how Balto was the hero of the serum race - getting diptheria serum to Nome in time to prevent an epidemic - I had to tell her Togo's story. This was at a time when the only sure way to get to the wintered-in parts of the north was by sled dog. There has been a lot of debate about it, but many consider Togo, Leonard Seppala's lead dog, the real hero of the serum race to Nome, but every dog and every musher deserve a lot of credit, as the book points out, for getting the serum to Nome. I ordered another copy for my graddaughter. This book is a delight. Of course, as we all know, and as Blake says, no one actually knows what went on out on the ice with Seppala and Togo, but Blake tells a great story, and as much of it is true as can be. I love to read stories about dog's who do real work!
