This book has well-selected representative illustrations of wallpaper from the 16th century to 1970 but the best section is on the 19th century. There are some color plates and a lot of black & white illustrations. I wish a few more could have been in color but other books I found with more color plates were a lot more expensive than this one was. There is a short Appendix on finding and preserving samples of old wallpaper for people who have an old house. There is an index of both text and pictures. There is a bibliography of other sources of information on wallpaper. The dust jacket and end papers have pictures from three different wallpapers. The book was first published in England but the author did a lot of her research in the United States.
