I loved this book. I'm fascinated with commercial fishing, particularly the more traditional aspects of this somewhat secretive world. Down at the Docks is written by an insider who occasionally pops up in his own narrative. Each chapter portrays one character from the New Bedford docks in depth. Female readers take note - there is a fascinating, and feminist, surprise take on women's role in the industry, towards the end of the book. This book is a fine description of an old and important city, and the various cultures that make it tick.
