After waiting over 2 weeks for this book to arrive, I was looking forward to adding this oversized edition to my collection. It came well packaged and it sits snug in a book box as part of the presentation. Unfortunately, my copy had a wrinkled dust jacket, like it had been in a moist environment. While the size of the book is impressive, I was perplexed by the unevenness of the printing quality. Some of the paintings are so dark, there is literally no detail in the shadow. Some portraits with a darker background just bleed into the hair of the subject. It feels like the blacks are totally crushed. Many of these images are also lacking in the vibrancy of the originals (having seen some of them myself). Then there are other pages where the reproduction and detail is perfect. It's just strange given how expensive this book is that I noticed all of these flaws within a few minutes. How does a publisher with a team of people dedicated to the quality of the print not notice this or if they did notice it, let it go out in the world like this? I won't return it because I don't want to incur the expense and logistics to do so but it didn't meet my expectation.
