The Last Indian War In California
From the opening chapter which depicts an Indian attack on a homesteader's family to the final resolution, L P Holmes has created one of the best books dealing with the White man/Indian problem which spread across the west. Ward Sebastian, being the fair minded man he was, knew not all of the blame lay with the Indians; there was enough to spread around, including an army officer who had nothing but hatred for the red man. Adding to Sebastian's problem were Anne Bigelow and Connie Ashland, two women who were as different as cold and hot. The last element of trouble was an outlaw who sought to profit from the constant fighting of the two groups. When put all together, it makes for an excellent book, I highly recommend.
