This book about the American Revolution viewed from the side of the Loyalists is not only fascinating, it has about it a ring of truth. Roberts has brought a great sense of the time and the people whose lives were torn apart because of their dissenting views and their disagreement with the patriots/rebels. As always Kenneth Roberts has written a book which does not glorify war or make light of how the lives of ordinary men and women are turned upside down in such times.

Getting used to the no hurry style takes a bit of effort, but is quite worth it. Before long you are there, back at the beginning of the revolutionary war- but with a twist - you're one of the loyalists. Kenneth Roberts, as usual, crafts a fine story.

revolutionary war historical novel
I read the book because of a "class" I took this past fall. I thought the writing was ponderous but the information provided was thought provoking. I hadn't read a historical novel from the perspective of a Loyalist during America's Revolutionary war.
