This story has it all; interesting characters, an exciting plot, riveting submarine warfare, murder mysteries, political games, sexual tension and sabotage. The focus on Lieutenant Lake's transformation from disgruntled, disenchanted, about-to-be-ex-naval officer, to a brave leader in a desparate situation, trapped ashore in Indonesia in the middle of a coup-d'etat with no way to rendevous with his submarine is well developed and believable. The various dysfunctional relationships among the crew are played out well into the unfolding story. The two rival submarine captains who admire each other must now hunt each other. This adds excitement to the climax of the story.
