Formerly known as Senior High School Library Catalog, this volume for librarians and school media specialists lists about 6,500 recommended resources, mostly fiction and nonfiction books published in the US, Canada, or UK and distributed in the US, for collection development, curriculum support, and readers advisory for the ninth through twelfth grades. The resources are arranged by the Dewey Decimal system, and include a bibliographic description, suggested subject headings, an annotation, and sometimes an evaluation. Books are emphasized, but some periodical and electronic resources are listed (the former new and the latter expanded), with a focus on science, social studies, geography, and math. Periodicals are listed alphabetically and electronic resources consist of commercial subscription-based databases and free websites. Review resources and other professional aids are included. Works on the history and development of young adult literature, literary criticism, bibliographies, selection aids, guides to the operation of media centers, periodicals relating to library science and education, and other resources are also listed. In this edition, about half of the entries are new, with expanded subject coverage, including more on the arts, sports, Islam and the Middle East, biography, cultural diversity, and other topics. Also added are about 100 graphic novels, and the most highly recommended titles are highlighted. Excluded are non-print materials other than electronic resources, textbooks, and books about specific vocations, individual computer programs, and other topics that quickly become outdated. The index contains author, title, subject, and analytical entries. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com) Read Less
